What is wrong
Your website uses both uppercase and lowercase letters in some web addresses. For example, you might have the same page accessible as both example.com/Products/Widget and example.com/products/widget. Whilst web servers can treat these as different pages, search engines typically see them as duplicates.
Why it costs you
This means Google may crawl and index multiple versions of the same page, wasting its crawl budget—the time it spends visiting your site. If the search engine indexes the wrong version or splits its view of the page across versions, your page may rank lower or be buried in results when it should rank higher.
How to fix it
Standardise all your URLs to lowercase only. This is best done in your page template or site configuration rather than on individual pages, so you only need to make the change once. If uppercase URLs currently exist, set up redirects (301 redirects) from the uppercase versions to their lowercase equivalents so visitors and search engines are automatically sent to the correct version.
What the audit tests
- The address path contains no capital letters
