What is wrong
Your website uses structured data markup—invisible code that tells Google what your content is about—for a rich result type that Google no longer supports. Google phased this out after 22 August 2023. Search engines ignore the markup because it no longer triggers special displays in search results the way it once did.
Why it costs you
This doesn't damage your site or cause pages to vanish from search. However, you are expending effort to add and maintain code that produces no benefit. Your pages rank and display normally; you simply miss any advantage the markup might have provided had Google still supported it.
How to fix it
Find the deprecated markup in your page templates or content management system and remove it. Search your templates for the schema type name mentioned in your audit report. Delete the entire structured data block—you can safely do this without affecting how pages look to visitors. If you want to help Google understand your content differently, consider using a currently supported schema type instead, but this is optional rather than urgent.
What the audit tests
- Structured data does not use the retired FAQPage type
- Structured data does not use the retired HowTo type
