Thin content pages
One of the 136 checks Lala SEO runs on every page of a site in a free audit.
- How serious
- Worth fixing. Weakens how Google reads or shows the page. Fix after the serious ones.
- Based on
- Industry standard: Google does not document this one, so the check follows established practice.
What is wrong
Many of your pages contain very little text—fewer than 250 words of actual content. Search engines use the amount and quality of content on a page to understand what it is about and whether it answers a visitor's question. When a page is mostly empty space, navigation, or repeated boilerplate text, the search engine struggles to work out its purpose.
Why it costs you
Thin pages are often skipped by search engines or ranked poorly because they do not provide enough information to be useful. Visitors who land on them may leave immediately because there is nothing substantial to read, and search results tend to favour pages that thoroughly address a topic over those with minimal detail.
How to fix it
To fix this, add genuine, useful content to each thin page. This might be a detailed product description, a proper explanation of a service, an article, or answers to questions your visitors have. The content should be written for your visitors first—not copied from elsewhere, and not padded with irrelevant words. If a page genuinely needs to be short, consider whether it should exist at all, or whether it could be merged with a related page that has more substance.
What the audit tests
