Keyword research and rankings for your website

Any paid plan 5 minute read

Who it is for: Anyone taking over a site, or planning what to target next.

Open Keywords for a site you have audited and press the button for the data you want. You get every search your site already ranks for with its position and monthly volume, the ones it could realistically reach, ideas for a topic you name, how a position has moved over time, and where you sit today for keywords you choose.

Why it matters

A site you did not build is already winning searches you cannot name. Change the wrong page and you find out which ones the hard way, usually a month later.

A keyword table: 196 keywords ranking, none on page one, and 73,120 monthly searches behind them.
A keyword table: 196 keywords ranking, none on page one, and 73,120 monthly searches behind them.

What to do

  1. Set the market first. Four multiple-choice questions about the site, asked once. Getting the country wrong invalidates every keyword figure after it, so this comes before anything else.
  2. Keyword rankings — what it already wins. Every keyword the site ranks for, its position, and the monthly search volume behind it. This is your baseline: take it on day one of an engagement, before you change anything.
  3. Keyword opportunities — what is within reach. Keywords graded against this site's own strength rather than against the whole internet, so the list is what this site could plausibly win and not what a national newspaper could.
  4. Keyword research — ideas for a topic you name. Related searches with their volumes, from a seed you give it. Use a topic the site already has some authority on; a seed from nowhere returns a list you cannot act on.
  5. Rank history — which way it is going. How a position has moved over time. A keyword sitting at nine and climbing is a different job from one sitting at nine and sliding, and today's number cannot tell them apart.
  6. SERP position check — where you are right now. Today's position for keywords you pick. A check you run when you want it, not a tracker that watches continuously.

What you get back

A baseline you can date and a shortlist you can act on, both measured rather than guessed.

How to make money from it

The baseline is your invoice justification. Take it before the work starts and every month after that the comparison does the arguing for you. It also protects you: if a position was already sliding before you arrived, you have the dated proof that it was.

Worth knowing. We report what a data provider measured, and we do not predict rankings. A tool that promises you a position is promising something no tool can deliver.

This one needs a paid plan. What each plan includes.

Independent tool. Not affiliated with or endorsed by Google. Google does not share its ranking systems, so we make no ranking predictions. Audit findings are checks against published Search Central documentation and long-standing technical practice; keyword, backlink and competitor figures are estimates measured from outside your site by our search data provider. Google Analytics, so we can see which pages people find useful. It sets cookies and sends your IP address and page URL to Google in the United States. Nothing you audit is ever sent. What we collect.
