Images that do not load
One of the 136 checks Lala SEO runs on every page of a site in a free audit.
- How serious
- Worth fixing. Weakens how Google reads or shows the page. Fix after the serious ones.
- Based on
- Industry standard: Google does not document this one, so the check follows established practice.
What is wrong
Images that are broken or missing—either because the file no longer exists, the link is wrong, or the server returns an error code like 404 or 410—are images your visitors cannot see. The audit tool has found images on your pages where the source file is not loading.
Why it costs you
When images do not load, your pages look unfinished and unprofessional. Visitors may leave without reading your content. If the broken images are product photos, logos, or other critical visuals, you lose the chance to communicate what you sell or who you are. Search engines also rate pages lower when key resources are missing.
How to fix it
Check each broken image link in your audit results. For each one, either upload the correct image file to your server and update the `src` attribute in the `<img>` tag to point to it, or remove the image tag from the page if the image is no longer needed. If you have moved images to a new location, you can also create a redirect (a 301 redirect) from the old image URL to the new one, though re-linking directly is faster and cleaner.
What the audit tests
- A sample of the site's images load rather than returning 404 or 410
